Common
mistake in the use of continuous tenses
· WRONG: It is raining
for three days.
· RIGHT: It has been raining for three days.
· WRONG: My mom is
sleeping for two hours now.
· RIGHT: My mom has been sleeping for two hours now.
In these statements we are
using the present continuous instead of the present perfect continuous. We use
the present perfect continuous tense to tell about an action which started in
the past, and form that time it is still continuing.
Common mistake in the use of present perfect tenses
· WRONG: I have given
him yesterday.
· RIGHT: I gave him yesterday.
· WRONG: He has
returned from America last week.
· RIGHT: He returned from America last week.
In these statements we are using the present
perfect tense instead of the simple past tense. The present perfect is a
present tense. It can not be utilize with adverbs of past tense.
Common mistake in the use of future tense
· WRONG: See that you
will not do any damage.
· RIGHT: See that
you do not do
any damage.
In this statement, it is mistake to use the
future tense in the subordinate clause when the verb is in the main clause and
in the imperative mood.
Common mistake in the use of future tense

WRONG: I will send him when the dinner will be ready.
· RIGHT: I will send him when the dinner is ready.
· WRONG: He will drink if you will ask him.
· RIGHT: He will drink if
you ask him
RIGHT: We will meet with you as soon as you come.
WRONG: We will meet with you as soon as you'll come.
RIGHT: We will meet with you as soon as you come.
WRONG: We will meet with you as soon as you'll come.
- In this statement, When the verb is main clause and is in the future tense, the verb in the subordinate clause should be in the present and not in the future.
